William and Mary - Roald Dahl: A Book Review

Published in 1959
Humans have been searching for the answer to immortality since the dawn of time. This tale unfolds through a letter from William to his wife Mary, which she doesn't receive until after William has passed away. It is brilliantly orchestrated, particularly the way their marital disagreements continue, even though William is no longer able to actively participate.
Some may see this story as morbid or creepy, but I found it quite funny, as well as eerily terrifying. At one point William's friend is explaining an experiment where a dog's brain was kept active after its head had been severed. I have actually read a lot about this experiment as it is apparently legitimate. It was a Russian experiment where they brought a decapitated dog's head back to life. You can actually watch a short black and white clip of it online, that was released in the 1940's, which is rather disturbing. Whether or not this was a hoax, I was unable to confirm, but as soon as it was mentioned in this book, I remembered II'd seen the video years ago.
