Book Scavenger / The Unbreakable Code - Jennifer Chambliss Bertman
Absolutely brilliant! These books combine the age old love of reading into the digital age. It reminds me a lot of the book Trash, but more believable. I found myself on more than one occasion wishing Book Scavenger actually existed. It's a bit like a book version of Pokémon GO! Now everywhere I go, I am constantly on the lookout for spots that would be great to hide a book and secretly wishing there were books randomly placed out there waiting to be found.
Book Scavenger
I love the way each and every character jumps from the page and the varied personalities and the way they learn and grow through their interactions. I don't know how the follow up books in this series will be able to outshine this one. The way the author has woven fact seamlessly into a fictional tale is beautifully achieved. It is a reminder of why writing is considered art, because this book is truly a masterpiece. Definitely 5-stars and I highly recommend it to any lover of books, no matter what the age, because while the target audience is 'tween', it has the ability to uncloak the inner child in anyone, at any age. Truly a must read.
The Unbreakable Code
The story continues in such a brilliant way. Usually the sequel to a great book is never as good as the first, but that is not so in this case. I really loved how this followed on from the first book with the beginnings of a 'new' game by the same designer of the original Book Scavenger game. While it had some of the same exciting puzzles and thought provoking mystery as the first book, it also had a lot of new brain teasers to keep things fresh. Definitely another great book that I highly recommend.
